Coronavirus Live Updates: India reported a record daily jump of 90,632 coronavirus infections in 24 hours on Sunday, taking the tally past 41 lakh, as it closes in on Brazil as the world’s second-most affected nation from the virus. With 41,13,811 cases, India is now just 9,000 cases behind Brazil, which has reported 41,23,000 confirmed cases.

In the 24-hour period, India, which is Asia’s worst-hit country, reported 1,065 deaths linked to the virus, taking the total number of fatalities to 70,626, the Health Ministry said on Sunday. Nearly 32 lakh patients have recovered from the infection in the country, pushing the recovery rate to 77.32 per cent.

Kerala Finance Minister Thomas Issac Tests Positive For COVID-19

Kerala Finance Minister Dr T M Thomas Isaac tested positive for COVID-19 on Sunday, the first in the cabinet to contract the infection, and has been shifted to the medical college hospital in Thiruvananthapuram, official sources said.

His swab samples were taken as he had a minor cold and he tested positive on Sunday, they told PTI.

He is the first minister in the cabinet to test positive for COVID-19, they said.

Bengaluru Hospital Reports First Case Of Covid Reinfection In City

Bengaluru has reported its first case of coronavirus reinfection – a 27-year-old woman who had first tested positive in July and was discharged upon full recovery from a mild form of the disease. Tests conducted on the patient, who did not have any co-morbidities, show she did not develop any immunity towards the novel coronavirus, a statement from Fortis Hospital said.

“This is possibly the first reported case of Covid reinfection in Bangalore,” Dr Pratik Patil, an Infectious Diseases Consultant at Fortis Hospital’s Bannerghatta Road facility said, explaining how the woman developed the disease a second time within a month’s time. Read more
Metro Trains Resume Today With Strict Screening, Social Distancing

Metro rail services will begin in select cities of the country today, more than five months after it was stopped, with a host of protective measures against coronavirus. Only asymptomatic people will be allowed to board trains, which will shut stations at containment zones. The passengers have been asked to download Aarogya Setu app on their smartphones and will undergo thermal checks at stations.

Based on central guidelines, the metro authorities of Delhi, Noida, Chennai, Kochi, Bengaluru, Mumbai Line-1, Jaipur, Hyderabad, Maha Metro (Nagpur), Kolkata, Gujarat and Uttar Pradesh have prepared their standard operating procedures. Coronavirus News: Record 3,810 New Cases Take Odisha’s COVID-19 Tally To 1,24,031
Odisha registered its highest single-day spike in COVID-19 cases on Sunday as 3,810 more people tested positive for the infection, while eight fatalities pushed the state’s coronavirus death toll to 546, a health official said, reported news agency PTI. The fresh infections have taken the state’s caseload to 1,24,031, he said. At least 2,286 new cases were detected in quarantine centres, while 1,524 people tested positive for the infection during contact tracing, the official said. Odisha had reported its previous highest single-day spike of 3,682 COVID-19 cases on August 27.
